Christy Hayhoe

Christy Hayhoe was born in Toronto and raised in Colombia, South America, where the beauty of green mountains contrasted with the tension of drug-war danger. These early experiences shaped her lifelong fascination with memory. She studied both chemistry and fine art at the University of Toronto and later sought to merge analytical and intuitive ways of creating. Her work blends realism and surrealism to explore how the mind recalls and distorts experience. Based in Toronto, she travels widely, gathering colours, textures, and memories that deepen her visual language and connect her scientific curiosity with artistic expression.

While science can explain many of the brain’s functions, memory remains at the edge of our knowledge. As an artist and a scientist, Christy Hayhoe’s work explores how the mind selects, colours, and distorts memories, revealing the emotional undercurrents shaping what we remember and how those memories evolve over time. Fusing intuition with cognition, she explores memory’s emotional echoes and the visual fragments that shape our stories.
