Elvan Suzer

I studied art at Montgomery College in Bethesda, Maryland, and am currently pursuing a double major in Fine Art and Art History at the University of Waterloo. Over the years, my work has been featured in numerous juried and group exhibitions, earning several awards and honorable mentions. Teaching is a meaningful part of my practice, and I’ve had the privilege of leading classes and workshops at institutions such as the Homer Watson Gallery, Button Factory Arts, and other regional art centers. Many of my students have since begun their own journeys as emerging artists. Today, I offer painting and mixed media classes in my studio in the historic Shoe Factory building in Kitchener, Ontario, where I continue to explore the intersections of landscape, figurative work, memory, and material.

True to the meaning of my name—colorful in my native language—I infuse vibrancy, energy, and movement into every piece I create. As a multi-genre artist, I explore the possibilities of color, texture, and form across acrylic, oil, encaustic, mixed media, and the Turkish marbling art of Ebru. Layering is central to my practice, allowing materials to interact organically and build depth both visually and emotionally. Whether abstract or representational, my work celebrates bold expression and invites viewers to pause, feel, and discover their own interpretations.
