Mariana Aramburu

I was born and raised in Mexico City, and after earning my BA in communications, I decided to move to Vancouver to pursue a degree in Creative Writing. While working as a travel writer and photographer, I began exploring new creative outlets and discovered paper as a versatile, affordable, and endlessly inspiring medium. Now based in Toronto, I combine my background as an artist and storyteller to reflect on my immigration story and dual cultural heritage. Using paper as my primary medium, I explore themes of identity, belonging, and our connection to the natural world.

Rooted in storytelling, my work blends elements of my Mexican and Canadian heritage to create intricate papercut narratives that evoke wonder and curiosity. Inspired by my love for travel and nature, I explore themes of identity, belonging, and our connection to the natural world. My process allows me to transform everyday materials into dreamlike and fantastical scenes, inviting viewers into a world where cultural traditions and contemporary experiences intertwine. Through my art, I explore connection, introspection, and celebration, sparking a sense of adventure and a deeper appreciation for the beauty in the stories we carry within us.
