Pierre Demers

I am currently an instructor both at my studio and at school where I have been teaching oil painting techniques at beginner and advanced levels for the past thirty-five years. I studied at Mission- Renaissance fine art school, Montréal, the techniques of impressionists masters like Monet and Cézanne.

For my work, I am inspired by science fiction books and by nature where the form and shape of objects stimulate my imagination and creativity to go beyond reality. I enjoy creating different worlds and moods I would like to visit; a kind of dreamlike travel through the mind.

I paint with oil on profile canvas. I am studying the composition and drawing. I focus on light and values for the contrasts.I then develop the color harmony. A lavis (wash) is applied before starting the oil painting on canvas.

I always do some drawing since I was young. I was a musician before I go to the fine art school. Since 1990, I teach oil painting techniques. I always like to draw and work with the colors to create something different and unique.
