We are excited to present the works of Nova Scotian Photographer, Neil Kehler, in "Hodge Podge".
Hodge Podge represents five summers of living well in Mi’kma’ki (Nova Scotia). For those summers Neil
actively participated in the landscape through farming, hiking, camping, and fishing. The photographs
included in this exhibition are his documentation of those experiences.
The winter is long in Mi’kma’ki, and when spring finally arrives it brings a frenetic pace along with it that
only increases in intensity as the days lengthen and summer begins. By the second week of July it is
often remarked between friends that they haven’t gone swimming enough, and too few camping trips
have been completed. This results in the final weeks of the season becoming a hungover blur of summer
activities. Tension builds between enjoying the hot weather and wanting a moment to rest, until
suddenly the leaves change colour and the nights become cool. Summer is over until the crocus
blossoms again, and all there is to remember it are the stories they will tell, and the photographs that
have been made along the way.
